Been roaming without a spare since I went to 38's, stock carrier would not have liked it much so finally finished my bumper build!

started with a trailer spindle & bearings
welded in a piece of 1.5 .120 wall DOM & inserted the spindle

made a bearing shell out of some more DOM tubing

that's where my phone died & pics stopped for the night, bent up a piece of 1.5" .120 wall DOM for the main hoop, plated both sides at the top with .250 plate & pierced another piece of heavy .375 wall tube thru it for the wheel mounting plate, off to the paint shop!

made a tag bracket with lamp
old cb magnet to mount it to the wheel plate thru the hole in the rim

couple studs to mount the high lift

woo hoo, got me a spare finally!
Works great, no rattles or creaks.

looks real good, man. I've been thinking of building something similar for my XJ. What did the raw material run you? Who did you buy the bearing pieces from?

Thanks, the bearing parts are just trailer axle bearings & spindle from tractor supply, the tube I just had laying around, cheaper non DOM tube probably would have cost around 100$ total including the bearings.
That DOM cost me 4.85$ a foot a year ago, still got 140 ft. left to finish my cage with.

prtty good price for a swing, I'd say. What made you choose the trailer bearing? I've heard of guys using locking hubs from D60s or even Chevy 8.5's, eliminating the need for a retaining pin on the other side.

i was replacing a spinde for a friend & noticed it fit perfectly in the .120 wall 1.5" tubing, one thing led to another.
great idea on the lock outs, I dont have a stop, the tire hits the right qtr to stop it.
