On my 18th birthday I bought this '79 Wagoneer for $600. It was all original, right down to the AM/FM/CB Radio! You could tell it had been partially repainted, and it had bald tires, but everything worked when I bought it.
Apparently, it had been sitting unused for a long time, because after about a month things started failing one after another. Electrical problems, flat tires, fuel pump, hoses, belts, brake pedal that stuck to the floor so you had to pull it up after you used it. Ugh.
It broke down once, and I had to tow it. I didn't even think about the Quadra-Trac, and I just hooked it up to a dolly. Cruising along, towing it with my Dad's Tahoe I felt this clunk and a lot of drag. When I looked in the mirror all I saw was a cloud of smoke as the rear tires on the Wag were dragging....well, one was going forward, the other in reverse at about 100mph. I ruined the clutches in the T Case and I think they fused to the side gears of the center diff, because it was locked SOLID in 4 wheel after that. :badidea:
Anyway, I got tired of fixing all the little problems, so it sat for a few years, collecting dust. I finally decided to sell it, so I put it on Craigslist and sold it for $300. :shitsweak:
Worst part is I think the guy just took the 360 and the front D44 out of it for his CJ5 project and scrapped the rest.
