Gotta love broken parts

last trip i wheeled the Heep, i got stuck at the badlands in attica IN.

what started out as this stuck

then adam (squeaky3) hooked to me to pull me out

after many yanks trying to pull in through the hole, it was not goin anywhere. Demonstalker ended up pulling me out backwards the way i came in. well, in the process of me getting stuck and the recovery process, weak links were found in my drivetrain/suspension.

well finally got around to replaing all the parts yesterday. here is what it ended up being.

Pass side LCA

out of the jeep

drivers side LCA

how the axle looked with all the old part still in tact

bent pass side UCA

cracked NP242 T-case

smashed Slip on front Drive shaft

now for the good pics.
New Rough Country LCA's

NP231 with SYE kit and a stock Front Driveshaft from another XJ. running same Driveshaft front and rear now and only have to carry one trail spare.

and one of the whole thing, now able to be driven once again. still have to replace a bent front shock, and bedline the interior before it will see trails again.

Sweet, carnage is good occasionally, gives you a reason to upgrade!
I had one of my stock arms tear around the bushing like that, I wasn't even stuck, was crawlin in low range, guess I had too much traction if that's possible!
SYE is the best mod you can do IMO, better angles, able to run with the shaft out,etc.

Tcase only took about an hour or so from start of taking old one out to new one in. the control arms took lik 2 hours simple because one bolt was froze in the bushing and with the UCA's bent the LCA's did not want to line up correctly.

broken parts are always a good reason to upgrade. next is rear leaves most likely, notices my passenger side leaf pack is sagging pretty good.

nothing of any count. tested out all my new parts this past weekend at a local even without a hitch, but 10 minute in i ripped a valve stem out of one of my rear tires so had to run on the spare all weekend.

At least they new parts worked. Did you slide across a bolder or something to wack off your valve stem?

no, not sure what happened to it exactly. i had only hit on main easy trail, easy enough i did it all in 2wd, got the the end and noticed something was not right. at first i though it was just low on pressure and blew the bead. as i tried to re-seat the bead it would not hold air, so looking for the leak i found the valvestem had a crack, bent it over and it was split 3/4 the way around almost.

bead locks are among my future purchases for sure. it can be done, sucks to do, but you CAN replace a valve stem without breaking the bead on a tire, woulda done it but did not have a spare valve stem even.

all good now, replaced it today actually with a shorter one in hopes it will not get caught as easily.

i am all about pushing the limits of what my rig can do. i found them sunday, but it won't stop me from trying that same trail again. i know can make it and keep it greasy side down.
